PBA Philippine Cup 2020 Finals | Game 4: Barangay Ginebra San Miguel vs TNT Tropang Giga
“We really had to win this game – the important game for us – or else we might be swept. But it is still the same. We just won a game. They won two games. Nothing to celebrate.”
This is what Tropang Giga head coach Bong Ravena uttered in a post-game interview after his squad won Game 3 of their race-to-four finale series against the league-leading Barangay Ginebra.
Heading into Game 4, Ravena has a similar mindset, reiterating: “Ipinakita namin yung kailangan na sense of urgency. Ganun pa rin ang mentality sa next game.”
The last time out, in an 88-67 decision, the Bobby Ray Parks Jr-less TNT succeeded in avoiding three straight setbacks in their titular series against the Tim Cone-mentored Gin Kings, with five players scoring in double-figure: Roger Pogoy (18), Troy Rosario (15), Jayson Castro (15), Simon Enciso (14), and Poy Erram (12).
Pogoy, who top-scored TNT in their 21-point romp in Game 3, is expected to carry the scoring load anew for the third-seeded Tropang Giga, which missed the services of star guard Parks for the past two games due to a left calf strain.
TNT looks forward to having Parks – the league leader in statistical points through the semifinals – back in Game 4.
For their part, Barangay Ginebra eyes to get equal offensive contributions from its stars after it got limited to its lowest scoring output in this playoffs in Game 3.
In Game 3, LA Tenorio’s the lone player who seemingly played consistently, scoring perfect 4-of-4 from the arc, which led to a 19 point performance, on top of 6 assists, and 2 steals.
Stanley Pringle and Japeth Aguilar, despite scoring in double digits, 11 and 15 points respectively, had a dismal performance throughout the match, given their past outputs in the first two games of the championship series.
Pringle was held in check after posting 29.0 points in Games 1 and 2, scoring just 11 on 4-of-14 shooting as Ginebra fell short of completing another comeback victory.
Banking on their 2-1 lead, Cone said: “We’re still in control of the series. They broke whatever little momentum we had. And we’ll see if we can get it back. We’ll go from here. Last game is over. We’ll move on and focus on the next one.”
A win by Tropang Giga will tie the series at 2-2, while a win by Ginebra will give them a 3-1 advantage, which means they only need to win Game 5 to secure to themselves the historic, first-ever PBA title in a PBA bubble format.
