Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio led the launch of “Tapang at Malasakit Alliance for the Philippines” today together with different groups that supported President Rodrigo Duterte during the 2016 Presidential election.
Also present in the said launch at Marquis Events Place at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig were Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano and his wife Taguig Mayor Lani Cayertano, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Francis Tolentino.
Duterte-Carpio said that the alliance aims to heal the political division that happened during the election.
“We only have 5 years to take advantage of that warrior spirit. We should rally behind our President and make our nation globally competitive,” she said.
She also cleared that the alliance was founded as a “show force” and a political party in preparation for the 2019 election where she is being hinted to run for a national post.
During the press briefing, Duterte-Carpio said that instead of seeking a national seat, she might run as representative of Davao City’s first district.
“‘Di ko naman kailangan mga taga-Luzon para sa kandidatura ko sa Davao, (I don’t need the votes of the people in Luzon for my candidacy in Davao.)” she said.
The Presidential daughter also denied that the alliance was formed in response to the cause-oriented opposition group “Tindig Pilipinas.”
“No, in fact, we’re inviting them to join in turning the country to a better one. (But) if you don’t want to work with us just be positive,” she added.
